The WM closed triple (President's trophy) can unfortunately not be played at Warwick this weekend because of a clash of fictures with the rugby club involving large numbers of children. The competition has kindly been taken on by the Half Crown at Stockton.

Apologies for the lack of updates during the autumn and winter period. Warwick Petanque Club has been going through a period of transition and we are pleased to announce that our new base is the Leamington Rugby Club in Kenilworth Road, Leamington, CV34 6RG.

At this new base we will have full floodlighting, our own playing surface (not a car park), along with international size pistes.

Working parties are already starting the ground work and club nights will be underway soon on Thursday evenings from 7pm, so we look forward to seeing as many members as possible along to get playing.

Keep your eyes on the website for the latest developments.

Em's 3 boulesCongratulations in the Summer League to the Warwick Bears who are back at the top of Division 2, and the Warwick Royals are holding the mid-table position despite having four games in hand, so a good performance against the Half Crown Knights on June 17th could further push them up the table.

The Warwick Bears have retaken their spot on the top of Division 2 with a convincing 3-1 win over Coventry Red who had been holding the top spot on points difference.

The Warwick Bears top of table domination ended at the end of week 7 when Pete Bingham was forced to play solo against a four-strong Solihull team as a result of a time pressure on fixtures. This saw the Warwick Bears drop to second place in the table with 16 wins, but slightly less points than Coventry Red on 16 wins.

However, the latest performance from Mike Pegg, Emily Tuff, Dan Shawe and new club member Norma Tallis took the team back into the top spot with 19 wins in total.

Meanwhile in Division 1, the Warwick Royals are sitting mid-table with 12 wins and 12 losses and a crunch game against the 2nd place Half Crown Knights coming up on June 17th.

Many thanks to those who turned out to the Warwick Spring Triples and congratulations to Brian, Phillipe and Gary, who won the day. Despite a disappointing turnout for the event, with several local clubs have no representatives attending at all, the event made for an enjoyable day's play in good spirits. It was also great to see Edna Lewin back out on the piste.

The Spring Warwick Open Triples is taking place this Sunday (26th April) at the Warwickians Rugby Club venue. Registration is open until 9.15am, with play to start by 10am. The cost is £12 per team.

Warwick club member Pete Bingham was among a team of four to win the Whitnash Open on Sunday, April 19. The team of Pete, with Martin Baker, Brian Stote and Jerome Rousseau, beat the Welsh national team of Pete, Ian and Neil Dobbins in the grand final.
